Ski to Sea organizers plan May 22 BBQ to thank volunteers

Ski to Sea organizers will host a barbeque for all volunteers who participate in this year’s race.

The event will take place from 5:30 p.m to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at the Squalicum Boathouse at Zuanich Park.

It will include a free meal and a free official 2012 Ski to Sea Beer Glass for the first 100 volunteers to register and show up.

The Ski to Sea race has more than 500 volunteers each year who come out and give up their time in order to help the race.

“The Ski to Sea race wouldn’t be anywhere without the hard working volunteers that give up their time to support the race, ” Pete Coy, race director, said in a May 4 press release. “We wanted to take the time out of our busy schedules to give a big thank you to the community because of all of their hard work and dedication to this Whatcom County tradition.”

Those that wish to participate must either be volunteers or be interested in signing up to volunteer and will register at the BBQ.

Volunteers must also register online if they wish to participate. They can do so at the SkitoSea website by clicking on the “Volunteer Appreciation BBQ” link under the “Events” tab.
