This month, technology companies from around the Northwest are coming to Bellingham to network, learn and show off their latest and greatest products.
The event is the annual Northwest TechExpo and job fair, on April 22.
“It’s an opportunity for technology companies to interact with each other,” said Megan Weber, the executive director of the Technology Alliance Group for Northwest Washington, the group that puts on the event every year.
The TechExpo is from 4-8 p.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton Bellingham Hotel and Conference Center at 714 Lakeway Drive in Bellingham.
“It’s a really cool opportunity to come and see what cool tech things are happening in Bellingham,” she said.
Representatives from Whatcom Community College will be there, talking about the school’s work on cybersecurity.
Companies working on virtual reality, coding, apps, even energy storage will be talking about what they’ve discovered over the past year.
“There are a lot of hidden treasures in Bellingham,” Weber said. The event also draws speakers and exhibitors from throughout the Northwest, from Portland, Oregon to Vancouver, B.C.
But it’s more than a trade show. While many of the tech companies will be there to demonstrate their latest products, it’s also a chance for networking and collaboration.
“Most of what’s going to be interesting is going to be these presentations where companies talk about how they’ve solved an issue through technology,” Weber said.
That’s a chance for companies to learn from each other, about how tech can solve business problems.
“It’s an opportunity for technology companies to interact with each other,” Weber said. “It’s also an opportunity for them to attract the workforce that they need to grow and thrive.”
The expo is a great opportunity for job seekers in the technology field, as well as recent graduates, and college students studying technology, Weber said.
The Technology Alliance Group for Northwest Washington, also called T.A.G. is a Bellingham-based nonprofit that supports local technology companies.
The group also helps match up tech companies in need of workers and job-seekers. The group has been around for 17 years.
“Technology is much more broadly applicable now that it was 20 or 30 years ago.”
