Teens can get homework help and support at new business

Anchor Society, a business with a mission to help teens succeed in school and life, will host a grand opening on Aug. 21 with Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville cutting a ribbon at 6:30 p.m. The grand opening starts at 6:00 p.m.

The business, at 21 Bellwether Way, offers tutoring, counseling, and life coaching from a team of personal coaches, a tutor, and a mental health counselor.

Anchor Society’s homework cafe will be open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and provide a quiet place for teens to do schoolwork. After the first day of school on Sept. 2, Anchor Society will open five days a week, said Jamie Shannon, Anchor Society founder. Until then, she said it will be open on and off.

Several local businesses will sponsor Anchor Society. Woods Coffee will provide snacks and drinks for teens studying in the cafe, and TD Curran is providing laptops, iPads and a printer, Shannon said.

The company offers monthly memberships and several need-based scholarships.
