Terra Power Systems expands

By Ryan Wynne

Terra Power Systems has spent the past seven months in a 2,000 square-foot space, but come this summer the 10-employee company will quadruple its floor size.

Terra Power Systems designs and manufactures electrical components for the heavy truck and off-highway vehicle industry, and has relationships with high volume truck manufacturers and military vehicle companies, said Eric Graham, president of the company.

He said 100 percent of the company’s production goes through the Bellingham office and that he expects production to grow. The new space will give the company the room it needs to accommodate that growth. If growth occurs as expected, he suspects the company will hire another four to six employees by the end of the year.

Terra Power Systems began business in Oct. 2009 and since then has shared a space with its sister company, Blue Sea Systems, a marine electrical design and manufacturing company. Blue Sea Systems currently employs 60 to 70 people, but that number fluctuates seasonally, Graham said. Blue Seas Systems is also planning for expansion over the next three to five years, he said.

The companies are located at 425 Sequoia Drive in Bellingham and Terra Power Systems’ new floor space will also be located in another part of that building. Construction for the expansion began earlier this month and Graham said the company has already started moving in and should be completely settled in by mid June.
