The Market at Lakeway donates $5,000 to local groups for "Good Neighbors" program

The Market at Lakeway gave $5,000 to 17 nonprofit organizations and schools in May as part of the grocery store’s Good Neighbors donation program.

When customers spent more than $25, a special receipt was generated at checkout. Customers could choose which of the Good Neighbors groups to “vote” for by dropping the receipt in a special box.

This year’s Good Neighbors groups are: Happy Valley Elementary, Larrabee Elementary, Lowell Elementary, Geneva Elementary, Wade King Elementary, Carl Cozier Elementary (all PTAs); Fairhaven and Kulshan Middle, Sehome High, Squalicum High and Bellingham High (all PTSAs), York Neighborhood Association, Puget Neighborhood Association, Happy Valley Neighborhood Association, Whatcom Hospice Foundation, Whatcom Land Trust and Whatcom Humane Society.

Three times a year, the receipts for each group are totaled, and The Market at Lakeway makes a cash donation to the group, based on its percentage of votes.

Lakeway Good Neighbors runs through the end of the year.
