Time Concepts opens on King Street

After four years of running his business from home, Nelu Gheorghita decided to open a retail location for his watch and clock repair business, Time Concepts.

The 800-square-foot store, which opened mid-March, is located at 1321 King St. Suite 2 and has enough room for Gheorghita to display a variety of watches and clocks, including German cuckoo clocks and two pine grandfather clocks that he built himself. Along with repair and restoration, which Gheorghita described as a “dying art,” he plans to sell higher-end watches from Citizen, Bulova and Skagen.

Gheorghita has been in the watch and clock repair business for more than three decades. He opened his first shop in Romania in 1973. After moving to the United States in 1989, he opened another shop in Loma Linda, Calif.

When Gheorghita and his wife, Veronica, moved to Bellingham in 2006, he decided to just do repair work from his home. He has built a steady customer base over the years, but said he missed the retail aspect of the business.

“I wanted to do some retail, which I couldn’t do from home,” he said.

Veronica, who previously worked as a pediatric nurse, will be joining Nelu at the shop to help out with sales and repairs. The couple have worked together in the past and “it was one of the best times of our life,” Veronica said.

  1. It is very true that the art of watch repair and restoration is a dying art. But is mostly because is hard to find dedicated people as the Gheorghita’s, that make it available, accesible and affordable. Kudos to all of you out there who make it a success for all of us!
