Tony Award nominee performing at local Alzheimer fundraiser

Sheryl Lee Ralph, Tony Award nominee and star of the Broadway musical “Dreamgirls,” will perform at the Alzheimer Society of Washington’s largest annual fundraiser this month.

The event, called “An Affair to Remember – Broadway Nights!” is on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Bellwether Ballroom, at 1 Bellwether Way.

The fundraiser will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, live and silent auctions and a dinner with wild salmon, steak or vegan options. A press release encourages participants to wear “Broadway attire.”

Tickets cost $100 in advance or $125 at the door.

“All proceeds from our fundraising events support individuals and families in Whatcom County who are struggling with Alzheimer’s and dementia,” executive director Kathy Sitker said in a press release. “This is our main fundraising event of the year – it’s so very important because the money we raise impacts the level of support we can provide to those in need in our community.”

One recent study found that the number of people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease could triple by 2050 and reach 13.8 million.
