Advantage Tutoring Center, a private tutoring facility for children, teens and adults, is opening in Blossom Commons at 159 W. Kellogg Road with a series of open houses. The open houses will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 2.
Owner Mary Morrison said the center plans to offer a broad scope of individualized instruction in math, reading, comprehension and spelling at remedial and advanced levels. The center will also be able to help adults with reading skills and English as a Second Language (ESL), as well as dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
Morrison said she has been a teacher in public, private and home school environments and has seen students of all levels be left behind in large classes. She said more one-on-one tutoring increases a student’s chance of success.
“We will work with students within the scope of their abilities to help them build self-esteem and train them in successful methods of comprehension,” Morrison said.
Since Advantage Tutoring Center is not part of a national system, it is able to handpick the best educational approaches available for a student’s needs instead of forcing the student’s needs into a rigid system.
“We are really trying to target each kid that learns differently and find a way that works for them,” Morrison said. “We want to help kids wherever they are at.”
The center’s regular office hours will be Monday through Thursday from 1 to 6 p.m. For more information, call (360) 312-3495 or visit www.advantagetutoringcenter.com.
