To celebrate the success of its 2011 Workplace Giving Campaign, United Way of Whatcom County is hosting a campaign celebration and awards banquet from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, at the Best Western Lakeway Inn.
The banquet will honor both new and returning organizations, as well as those who demonstrated outstanding dedication, support and partnership
with United Way.
“We’ve got big news this year about the amount of funds raised,” Peter Theisen, United Way president, said in an April 11 press relase. “And most importantly, we are excited for the support these generous dollars will provide for vital community programs that improve education, income, and health for us all.”
The Workplace Giving Campaign, which is held during the fall, is United Way’s largest fundraising effort.
More than 150 Whatcom County organizations and hundreds of volunteers participated in the fall 2011 campaign. Their contributions will be distributed by volunteers to more than 40 programs funded by United Way, including 30 different nonprofits that help youth achieve their potential, promote financial stability and independence, as well as improve people’s health.
“We’re excited to support these programs that do so much for our community,” Theisen said.
In May, the Fund Distribution Committee, made up of 40 volunteers, will distribute campaign funds to programs based on need in the community. Final funding recommendations will be approved at the end of June.
