Desmond Skubi, the executive director of unity care NW, has been awarded the Annual Legacy Award by the Northwest Regional Primary Care Association. The award honors someone in the northwest region — which includes Washington, Alaska, Oregon and Idaho — who has dedicated their career to solving the problems of health, poverty and human rights.
Skubi has dedicated his career to community health through his work as a clinician, consultant and executive. He started in community health in 1982 working as a nurse-midwife the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota.
Unity Care NW was established in 1982, and has health centers in Bellingham, Ferndale and Point Roberts.
