Village Books/Paper Dreams gives more than $16,000 to local teachers

Village Books/Paper Dreams is giving more than $16,000 in gift certificates to local teachers. The book store and attached greeting card and gift store will give every teacher in Whatcom County a $10 gift certificate during the 93rd annual American Education Week (Nov. 17 to 21).

District Education Association representatives will distribute the gift certificates to educators in the county’s seven school districts, nearly 1,700 in all, according to a press release.

Chuck and Dee Robinson, store owners, spent ten years teaching and consulting in public schools.

“We know how hard teachers work and we’re really thankful for what they do,” Chuck said in the release. “This is just a small token of our appreciation for folks who often are under-appreciated.”

Village Books/Paper Dreams works with educators and schools in a variety of ways, and offers discounts to districts and teachers for materials purchased for classroom use. But the gift certificate is a personal gift to teachers, Chuck said. “We hope they’ll use it to get themselves a well-deserved treat,” he said.
