Walker picked as new director for Community Boating Center

Longtime Bellingham resident Steve Walker has been chosen as the new executive director of the Community Boating Center in Fairhaven.

The nonprofit was founded in 2006 and runs instructional programs for kayaking, sailing, rowing and stand-up paddle boarding. It also provides boat rentals and year-round boat storage, along with summer sailing and paddling camps for children.

The center emphasizes education on boating safely in cold-water environments.

Walker has spent time as the director of Western Washington University’s Outdoor Center, and recently served as property steward for the Whatcom Land Trust.

His management and community development experience includes service on the Greenways Advisory Committee, the Whatcom County Transportation Committee, as well as a stint as president of the Fairhaven Neighbors Association.
