Walmart donates $25,000 to Ferndale Food Bank

On Sunday, July 31, the Ferndale Food Bank accepted a $25,000 grant from Walmart to support its Farm Food Recovery Project (FFRP).

The project has volunteers collect in-season produce, dairy and meat products, which would otherwise go to waste, from local farms and grocery stores. The food is then distributed to more than 2,500 clients of the food bank, who would not normally have access to fresh, local food due to its relatively high cost.

The grant was one of 11 awarded by Walmart’s Washington State Giving Council to nonprofit organizations across the state, totaling $375,000.
