Whatcom Community College has received two grants totaling $300,000 to help low-income students in math and English classes. WCC received two of the six College Spark grants awarded to state community and technical colleges this year.
One grant will help WCC fully scale a course called English 101-Plus, a combination of entry-level English 95 and English 101.
The second grant will allow WCC to redesign its math placement program, to increase the rate of students earning college-level credit.
College Spark Washington funds programs across the state to help low-income students become college ready and earn their degrees.
