On July 22, Whatcom Educational Credit Union (WECU) bought the building owned by Value Village at 3990 Meridian St. for $2 million.
Robert Langei, WECU vice president and chief operations officer, said the purchase is part of the credit union’s “long-term strategic plan”. However, he could not say exactly what WECU has in store for the approximately 25,200 square foot space and the 2.38 acres of land that accompany it.
Langei said WECU is not in the business of leasing its buildings. For now, though, WECU will continue to lease the building to Value Village.
WECU currently has 11 branches. The Bellis Fair Mall branch is closest to Value Village.
