Whatcom County unemployment rate down in March

Whatcom County’s March unemployment rate was 8.1 percent, a drop from 8.5 percent in February, according to state officials.

The Washington State Employment Security Department released March’s county-by-county jobless numbers on April 24.

Whatcom continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in northwest Washington, though rates for all counties in the region fell last month.

Skagit County was at 10.2 percent, Island was at 9.3 and San Juan was at 8.5.

The county numbers released by the state were not seasonly adjusted.
