Three local charities will be given more than $5,000 by the Whatcom Young Professionals, a program of the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The group raised the money during its “Buzz Off” charity bowling tournament in June.

The Assistance League’s Operation School Bell program, Community in Schools of Whatcom County and the Ferndale Community Service Cooperative will receive the donations.

Sponsors for the event at 20th Century Bowl in Bellingham included: Nooksack River Casino, Silver Reef Casino, Audio Innovations, Continuous Motion, Whidbey Island Bank, Chic Living by ToU, Skagit State Bank, Cosmic Comics, Poppes 360, Comcast Business Class, American Family Insurance, Alicia’s Bridal, Rice Insurance, Signs by Tomorrow and Little Caesars.
