Whatcom County’s unemployment rate was at 7.6 percent in July, an increase from a revised rate of 7.3 percent in June, according to figures released by the state Employment Security Department.
More than 2,000 jobs were lost in the county between June and July—1,900 of them were state and local government jobs.
Last month’s unemployment rate was lower than the rate in July 2011, when 8.3 percent of the county’s workforce was out of work.
Statewide, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 8.5 percent last month—the non-seasonally adjusted rate was 8.4 percent.
