Whatcom County’s Womencare Shelter raised more than $78,000 at its recent gala fundraising event to support the organization’s efforts to serve domestic violence victims and their children.
More than 200 people attended the lively event that included music, champagne, hors d’oeuvres, dinner, a silent and live auction, organizers said. The funds raised exceeded expectations.
“It is amazing and humbling, to witness the level of support and charitable giving that the greater community of Whatcom County showed for Womencare,” said Cathy Craver, the organization’s board chair.
Womencare Shelter has been serving women and children since 1979.
“Our clients would be homeless or forced to remain in an abusive relationship if we didn’t exist,” Craver said. “On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and the clients we serve, we thank our sponsors and everyone that attended our event.”
Womencare Shelter is an empowerment based organization working to end domestic violence by providing 24 hour crisis support services, emergency confidential shelter and community education.
