Whole Foods Market announced that it plans to open a store in the Lakeway Center in Bellingham next year.
The 50,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open summer 2016, according to a press release. The store will be located at 1030 Lakeway Drive in a space that has been empty since the Market at Lakeway closed in January 2014.
Whole Foods Markets carry natural and organic groceries and have baked goods and take-out meals prepared on-site.
“We’ve long believed that Bellingham is a wonderful fit for Whole Foods Market because the community’s values are so in line with our own,” Joe Rogoff, president of Whole Foods Market’s Pacific Northwest Region, said in a press release.
The company estimates that the Bellingham Whole Foods Market will create about 150 local jobs, according to the news release.
The new store will be the first Whole Foods Market in Whatcom County and 11th in the state. The grocery chains headquarters is in Austin, Texas, and its Pacific Northwest regional office is in Bellevue. Whole Foods has more than 400 locations throughout the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom.
