Wise Buys thrift store hosts contest for entryway mural

Lydia Place, along with its thrift store, Wise Buys, is hosting a community art mural contest, with submissions being accepted through Wednesday, April 30.

The contest seeks local artists to create an original work to install over a 15-by-7-foot wall space near the entrance to Wise Buys, located at 1224 N. State St., in downtown Bellingham.

Entires must incorporate the theme “every family deserves a home,” and they are encouraged to include the name Lydia Place, as well as depictions of families and housing.

The entries will be judged based on artistic merit, creativity and incorporation of the theme. The winning selection will be professionally photographed and converted into a vinyl print for installation by the official contest sponsor, Northwest Safety Signs.

The winning artist will also receive a prize package valued at $250, as well as an unveiling reception during the June 6 edition of the downtown Bellingham Artwalk.

The nonprofit Lydia Place provides transitional housing, permanent supportive housing services and subsidies, emergency housing, life skills programs and case management services.

Rules and regulations for the contest are online at wisebuys.org. Those with questions regarding the contest can email shultziew@lydiaplace.org or call 360-671-7663.
