The popular Bellingham Chalk Art Festival will likely not happen this summer, according to Marisa Papetti, a business development coordinator with the marketing firm fifthonsixth, which sponsored the event last year.
Papetti said in an email that a new sponsor for the event, which would have celebrated its 20th anniversary this summer, has not been secured.
In the past, the nonprofit organization Allied Arts of Whatcom County had organized the event with fifthonsixth as a sponsor, but Allied Arts will not be able to continue covering the costs for insurance, chalk and other supplies.
Papetti said she is happy to do the work necessary to host the event again this year, but she will need a sponsor to cover the funding needed to make things work.
She said if she can find a sponsor by May 28, the festival may still be able to go on.
Papetti can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
