WTA introduces trip planning with Google Maps app

The Whatcom Transportation Authority’s trip planning information can now be accessed using the Google Maps mobile app.

Travelers with Internet access can now plan their transit trip online, including trips that incorporate several transit modes and providers. For example, someone traveling from Ferndale to Seattle can use Google Maps by entering their trip date, time, origin and destination. Google Maps will generate a detailed trip plan, including options operated by WTA, Amtrak, Skagit Transit, Sound Transit and Metro Transit.

Google Maps also generates walking directions, providing travelers with detailed directions on how to get to or from transit stations.

Google Maps, available on Android devices and iPhones, is a multi-modal public transportation planning tool that combines current transit agency data with the functionality of Google Maps. It provides transit stop, route, schedule, and fare information for more than 500 cities around the world, making it easier to plan trips that span different transit modes and service areas.

This planning tool can be found at google.com/transit as well as at ridewta.com.
