WWU Small Business Development Center appoints CJ Seitz as director

C.J. Seitz has been hired to direct Western Washington University’s Small Business Development Center in downtown Bellingham.

Seitz has served as interim director for the center since January, after former director Jennifer Shelton left. She was hired after an extensive search, according to a press release from Western.

“We’re excited to hire C.J. to lead the SBDC,” said Steve Swan, Western’s vice president for University Relations and Community Development, in the press release. “Her work was impressive while she served as interim director and she really set the tone for future success.”

Seitz worked at Western’s Small Business Development Center as a business advisor from 2005 to 2009. After that, she directed the Northwest Region of the Washington State Employment Security Department, where she was responsible for ESD’s service delivery in its Bellingham, Mount Vernon and Oak Harbor centers, serving job seekers and employers through the WorkSource system.

Seitz has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from Western.

“I’m honored to be able to continue our good efforts and to keep moving this organization forward,” Seitz said in the press release. “We have a talented staff and Western Washington University is a great place to work. I love being immersed in Whatcom County’s innovative business community and helping entrepreneurs to succeed.”
