YWCA celebrates 100th anniversary with fundraiser for emergency housing

The Bellingham YWCA is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its Bellingham building from 7 to 9 a.m. on Friday, May 29 at the Best Western Lakeway Inn. The historic building, called the Larrabee House, is at 1026 N. Forest St., in Bellingham.

The YWCA is requesting a $50 minimum donation for the event. The proceeds go toward raising money to support the YWCA’s transitional and emergency housing program for women made homeless by domestic violence, job loss, physical or mental illness and other crises, according to a YWCA news release.

Colleen Haggerty, a Bellingham author, will speak at the event. Her book, “A Leg to Stand on: An Amputee’s Walk into Motherhood,” tells the story of her struggle to overcome a life-changing injury.
